Leapmotor has announced that vehicles imported into Uzbekistan unofficially (without authorization) will not be recognized by the company, nor will they receive official warranty and services. This statement was shared by the press service of the "Uzbekistan Scientific Testing and Quality Control Center" (UzTest).
On April 13, 2025, Leapmotor Automobile Co. Ltd. sent an official letter to Uzbekistan’s Technical Regulation Agency and UzTest. In the letter, the company acknowledged issues surrounding the unauthorized import of C16 model cars into Uzbekistan via non-official distributors. Leapmotor expressed its readiness to address the matter and take corrective measures.
According to the letter, Leapmotor confirmed the following:
- The company will operate in Uzbekistan solely through official distributors.
- Unofficially imported vehicles will not be acknowledged by Leapmotor, and they will not qualify for official warranty and services.
- Testing procedures for obtaining the type approval document (OTTC) will be completed shortly.
- Comprehensive collaboration with O‘zTest to enhance quality control will be established in the future.
“This cooperation aims to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and technical standards for vehicles. UzTest appreciates the company’s initiative and will continue to actively participate in processes that prioritize user safety,” the statement reads.
Previously, Leapmotor’s C16 model cars underwent regulatory inspections, which revealed electromagnetic noise levels exceeding UN standards by 16 times. Consequently, the import of these vehicles into Uzbekistan was prohibited.
Later, entrepreneurs involved in the sale of electric cars addressed the President via social media, advocating for free market principles. They requested the removal of restrictions and support for open market policies. Following these developments, the Business Ombudsman announced that the entrepreneurs’ appeal was being reviewed for compliance with legal requirements.
Subsequently, Leapmotor’s cars were re-tested in Uzbekistan with the participation of the company’s specialists, and the export ban was lifted after no issues were detected with the vehicles.
