UzTest, the Center for Scientific Testing and Quality Control of Uzbekistan, has officially confirmed the theft of testing equipment from its Bukhara regional branch, following earlier media reports of a major incident and alleged financial mismanagement.
According to the organization’s statement, a "Brake Stand" testing device valued at 150 million soums and gas cylinder measuring equipment worth 250 million soums were indeed stolen. The incident was uncovered during an internal investigation by the Compliance Control Department of the Agency for Technical Regulation of Uzbekistan. The findings were forwarded to law enforcement authorities in the Bukhara region in November 2024, and a formal investigation is currently ongoing.
UzTest stated that additional information would be shared following the completion of the investigation.
“Also, the news reports allege that 6 billion soums were spent aimlessly at the Center for Scientific Testing and Quality Control of Uzbekistan. This news is completely untrue and baseless. The Agency's Compliance Control Department has established constant monitoring of the financial activities of system organizations, including the Center,” the statement said.
The agency also called on social media users and public figures to refrain from spreading unverified or misleading information, and urged law enforcement to take appropriate action against those attempting to manipulate public opinion.
As previously reported, one of three pieces of testing equipment imported from Germany was said to be missing, including the 1.2-ton "Brake Stand" and gas measuring instruments, both of which were confirmed as stolen from the regional branch.
