Uzbek national wanted for fraud detained in Russia

An Uzbek citizen who was placed on the international wanted list for fraud has been detained in Russia, "Gorod" newspaper reported.  

According to the investigation, in June 2024, the man was in Uzbekistan when he illegally sold two cars that did not belong to him, collecting a total of $14,000 from the transactions.  

In November 2024, Uzbek authorities placed him on the international wanted list. The following month, a district court in Uzbekistan issued an in absentia arrest warrant against him.  

In January 2025, Russian police apprehended the suspect in the Nijneilimsk district of the Irkutsk region.  

“He will remain in custody for 40 days while authorities decide on his extradition to Uzbekistan,” the report states.  

Previously, another Uzbek national wanted internationally was detained at the Jaysan railway checkpoint in Kazakhstan’s Aktobe region. He had been placed on Interpol’s wanted list by Moldovan authorities on drug trafficking charges.
