The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan has verified that two Uzbek citizens tragically died in a hostel fire in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Akhror Burkhanov, shared this information during a telephone conversation with the correspondent of QALAMPIR.UZ.
"We confirm that two citizens of Uzbekistan were involved in the fire in Kazakhstan. They were young men born in 2000. Both have been identified, and their families have been notified. Assistance will be provided to repatriate them to Uzbekistan," stated Burkhanov.
He emphasized that additional details regarding the incident, including information about the deceased Uzbeks and the fire itself, will be provided upon the completion of the preliminary investigation.
As a reminder, on November 30, around 05:33, a fire erupted in a building on Adi Sharipov Street in Almaty. At the time of the emergency, 72 individuals were inside, with most of them successfully evacuated. Upon the arrival of rescuers, the bodies of 13 people were discovered. Nine were citizens of Kazakhstan, two were from Uzbekistan, and two were from Russia. Additionally, two individuals were hospitalized. Preliminary assessments suggest that the victims may have succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning.
In the aftermath of the fire, a government commission was established to investigate the causes of the emergency.
