Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will install 10 water measuring stations along the Syrdarya

Uzbekistan's Minister of Water Management, Shavkat Hamroev, held discussions with Kazakhstan's Minister of Water Management and Irrigation, Nurjon Nurjigitov, addressing key issues of bilateral and regional cooperation, as reported by the Ministry of Water Economy and Irrigation.

The ministers focused on the automation of measuring stations and the digitalization of water accounting in the Syrdarya basin. They have agreed to install modern water meters at ten strategic locations along the river.

Nurjigitov highlighted ongoing negotiations with international financial institutions and companies aimed at jointly implementing this initiative.

Additionally, the ministers reviewed operational protocols for the Norin-Syr Darya cascade reservoirs in preparation for the upcoming pre-irrigation season.

It was noted that during the next meeting of the Central Asian Interstate Water Management Coordinating Commission, a forecast schedule for reservoir operations will be established, along with the approval of water supply volumes.

The discussions also included the formulation of a regional strategy for the sustainable use of water resources. At the conclusion of the meeting, the ministers signed the minutes to formalize their agreements.
