9892The agreement between Kazakhstan and Gazprom affects the transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan. The agreement on strategic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Gazprom deals with the transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan. Kazakhstan's Energy Minister, Almasadam Satkaliyev, informed journalists about this.
"This contract deals with the transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan. As you know, we launched our own gas transportation system and provided the possibility of transit. With this contract, we have determined the obligations of the parties regarding the transit of Russian gas," he said.
On November 1 of this year, Gazprom chairman Alexey Miller met with representatives of three Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan - and signed new documents as part of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum-2023.
A Strategic Cooperation Agreement was signed at a working meeting between Miller and First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Roman Sklyar. The document aims to develop cooperation in the field of natural gas supply, transportation, and processing, as well as in the field of geological exploration and production.
Kazakhstan's Energy Minister, Almasadam Satkaliyev, said that the possibility of increasing the volume of gas supply to Uzbekistan will depend on the needs of the Uzbek side. "We are talking about the possibility of transit through our territory," he explained.
According to Satkaliyev, Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of supplying at least 800 million cubic meters of gas from the Russian Federation to Uzbekistan through transit by the end of the year. In general, at the initial stage, we are talking about the supply of about 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas.
It should be noted that within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, a strategic memorandum on cooperation in the energy complex was signed between the Russian public joint-stock company "Gazprom" and the government of Uzbekistan. The document was signed by Alexey Miller, head of Gazprom, and Jorabek Mirzamakhmudov, Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan.
Speaking at the forum, Miller said that the Russian company "Gazprom" is currently working on a delivery route for the gasification of the city of Astana, Kazakhstan. The company is looking for new routes to increase the volume of deliveries to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, including the Bukhara-Ural gas pipeline.
He also said that cooperation in the gas sector between Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan will last 15 years, and a long-term cooperation agreement can be concluded in the middle of 2024.
For information, on October 7 of this year, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the leader of Kazakhstan, Kasim-Jumart Tokayev, started the delivery of Russian gas to Uzbekistan through the territory of Kazakhstan. According to him, Uzbekistan will buy 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia every year under a commercial contract.
