The Senate “Remembered” the prisoners being tortured

10991A law aimed at strengthening the protection of prisoners' rights was approved today 19 November, at the 35th plenary session of the Senate.
According to the law, it is strictly forbidden to use inhumane or degrading treatment or punishments, or to use a sedation jacket (rubashka) against prisoners.
The draft law "On amendments and additions to certain legal acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at reliably protecting the rights and legal interests of prisoners" was developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The law also stipulates that common accommodation intended for persons with disabilities of groups I and II deprived of freedom, should be equipped with special tools and equipment. Another important aspect is the criteria for assessing the return of the convicts to the right path. In addition to the issues of incentives for prisoners, the right of prisoners to watch movies and TV shows during non-working hours and night rest, the law also provides a place for them.
At the same time, prisoners have the right to use the services of a sign language interpreter as well as an interpreter.
Also, now the period of paid work in prison of persons deprived of liberty is added to the total length of service.

In this, the relatives of the convict Ayatollah Makhsumov, who died in the penal colony No. 4 of the fifth regional area of Navoi city on 7 October this year, said during their interviews that Ayatollah was tortured by wearing a "jacket."
