Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan reach a final agreement on border delimitation

10131On 27 January, an official welcoming ceremony of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who is in Kyrgyzstan on a state visit, was held at the "Ala-Archa" residence in Bishkek. This was reported by the Press Service under the President's Administration.
Following the welcome, a narrow range of negotiations with the heads of state took part.
During the meeting, the parties noted that in the last two years, they have reached a completely new level of mutual relations. The delimitation of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan border was recognized as a historic event.
"I would like to express my special gratitude to my colleague for personally helping me out with the border issue. If he did not show his political commitment, we would not have achieved such results. These issues were postponed for years. 30 years have passed and we have not resolved these issues. So I would like to thank you once again. Negotiations were concluded, and a historic agreement was reached. This agreement was welcomed with great enthusiasm by our fraternal nations," - Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
According to the press service under the President's Office of Kyrgyzstan, in accordance with the agreement, the borderline with a total length of 302.29 kilometers, including 35 residential sections of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyz state border, was determined. In addition, Uzbekistan will receive 4,957 hectares of the Andijan (Kampirabad) reservoir and an additional 19.5 hectares for the maintenance and protection of the dam. Kyrgyzstan will receive 1,019 hectares of pasture as compensation.
It is noted that the Uzbek side will maintain the water level in the reservoir at a level of no more than 900 meters, and will ensure that the Kyrgyz people will freely use the resources (animal watering, irrigation, fishing), undertakes engineering around the reservoir and not to install technical facilities.
The Kyrgyz side undertakes to establish water protection zones and ensure compliance with the water use regime.
