In a shocking revelation, it has come to light that employees of the district electric company are responsible for damaging a historical monument in Kashkadarya. The Press Service of the Prosecutor General's Office reported the incident, which has sparked outrage among preservationists and cultural heritage enthusiasts.
The archaeological site in question is "Chillamazortepa," a site dating back to the VI-XII centuries, situated in the "Darkhan" neighborhood of the Yakkabog district, Kashkadarya region. Officials from the district electric company, in an act deemed illegal, carried out construction work and excavated a substantial 3.75 cubic meter portion of the monument. Their objective was to install a transformer station, but in doing so, they caused damage estimated to be worth 93 million soums to this cherished cultural heritage object. It is important to note that the monument had been registered as a cultural heritage site and was under the protection of the state.
The gravity of the situation prompted the initiation of a criminal case against the officials of the electricity supply in the Yakkabog district. Currently, a preliminary investigation is underway to uncover further details and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
This incident follows a recent case in Bukhara where historical objects suffered damages amounting to a staggering 300 billion soums. The preservation of cultural heritage remains a pressing issue, and these acts of negligence and vandalism continue to undermine the efforts of conservationists.
