A man from the Kashkadarya region has been found guilty of causing over 1.5 billion soums of damage to nature by illegally keeping two rare Italian ibises at home. This was reported by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change.

H.N., a resident of Kasbi district, was found to have the endangered birds without the necessary permit. A report was filed against him, and the birds were transferred to the "Zerafshan" National Nature Park in the Samarkand region for rehabilitation and temporary legal protection until their release.

The act resulted in a significant environmental loss, with H.N. causing 1 billion 687 million 500 thousand soums in damage to the animal world.

The Italian ibis is classified as an endangered species, appearing in the Red Book, the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and Appendix II of the CITES Convention. In 2010, the global population of the species was estimated at between 5,400 and 15,400 pairs.

This incident follows another case in which three Bukhara deer were hunted illegally in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, leading to more than 3 billion soums in environmental damage. In that case, M.K. was arrested on suspicion of violating the procedures for the use of fauna or flora under Part 3 of Article 202 of the Criminal Code.
