A man in Kashkadarya has been sentenced to 15 years and 6 months in prison for beating his sister’s drunken husband to death. The Supreme Court’s press service provided details of the crime on May 26, 2024.

The tragic incident began when the sister of the accused complained to him about her husband’s longstanding habit of returning home intoxicated and causing disturbances. Enraged by this, the brother decided to confront his sister’s husband. Upon arriving at the house, he found no one answering the door. Determined, he climbed over the wall and entered the home. Inside, he discovered his sister's intoxicated husband and, after a heated argument, began to physically assault him.

The man dragged his sister’s husband outside and, in an act of extreme cruelty, stuffed children’s clothes into his mouth to muffle his screams while continuing to beat him. The sustained blows to the head resulted in the man’s death on the spot.

Following the incident, the sister, unaware of what had happened, was staying in another district with her three children. When she inquired about her husband’s whereabouts, her brother falsely claimed he didn’t know.

The body remained undiscovered until a week later when the head of the mahalla noticed a foul odor and stumbled upon it.

The court found the defendant guilty under Article 97, Part 1, Subparagraph "j" of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, which addresses intentional murder committed with extreme cruelty. The severity of the crime led to a sentence of over 15 years in prison.

This case follows another recent murder in Surkhandarya, where an 18-year-old man was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison for fatally stabbing his girlfriend, highlighting growing concerns over violent crimes in the region.
