Bloggers were apprehended in Kashkadarya

Three individuals who operated as bloggers were apprehended in Kashkadarya on allegations of extortion, as per the official announcements from the regional court.

According to reports from the Karshi city court handling criminal cases, the deputy prosecutor of Kashkadarya region pressed charges against individuals accused of violating Article 165, paragraph "v", pertaining to extortion, and detained them in accordance with Article 221 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The accused include Sh. P., a man born in the Tashkent region in 1977 and affiliated with the independent organization "Human Rights," serving as the head of "Defending bloggers" LLC, who has a prior criminal record, along with N. K., a woman born in 1980 in Kashkadarya region, and D. X., a woman born in 1984 in Kashkadarya region, who was employed as a teacher at a general education school in Koson district, both of whom also have previous convictions. The court reviewed the submitted documents pertaining to their cases.

The court decision on February 28, 2024, granted the request of the deputy prosecutor of Kashkadarya region, resulting in the imposition of pretrial detention as a precautionary measure for Sh. P., N. K., and D. X., with the determination that they will be incarcerated and held in an investigative detention center.
