Six people died and five others injured in an explosion at a gas filling station in Kashkadarya region, which was reported earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.

According to the ministry, at 1:50 p.m. on June 8, the Kashkadarya regional Department of Emergency Situations received a report of an explosion at a liquefied gas filling station for household gas cylinders, operated as a limited liability company, in the Chaman mahalla of Karshi district.

Five rescue units arrived at the scene at 2:02 p.m. The fire was contained at 2:05 p.m. and extinguished at 2:55 p.m.

According to preliminary information, four vehicles — two Cobalt cars and two gas transport vehicles — as well as two underground fuel storage tanks caught fire and were damaged.

As a result, six people died, while five others were taken to hospital with injuries of varying severity.

The ministry said that, on the instructions of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted an order to establish a government commission consisting of representatives of relevant ministries and agencies and headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ochilboy Ramatov.

The government commission has been tasked with providing necessary assistance to the victims, eliminating the consequences of the explosion, determining the causes of the accident and taking measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The area where the fire occurred has been fully brought under control, and work is underway to eliminate its consequences.
