Further details emerge regarding the inmate who committed suicide in prison

18546Previously, it was reported that 24-year-old convict Sh.S. had taken his own life while serving his sentence in Penal Colony No. 6 in the Pop district of Namangan region. The incident was investigated by the regional representative of the Human Rights Ombudsman of the Oliy Majlis in Namangan. This information was provided by the Ombudsman's information service.
During the investigation, several inmates who were in the same group as Sh.S. and had a friendly relationship with him were interviewed individually.
Additionally, the regional representative of the Ombudsman in the Samarkand region interviewed the deceased's family members residing in Samarkand, including his parents and spouse. They confirmed the details reported in the news.
According to the information submitted to the Ombudsman, Sh.S. committed suicide on May 23, 2024, by hanging himself with a polyethylene thread from an iron pole at the back of the brick production workshop within the colony's production area.
"A forensic examination has been ordered for this case, and investigative efforts are currently being conducted by the prosecutor's office. The appeal from the deceased's close relatives and other relevant documents have been forwarded to the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan, following the Ombudsman's involvement in the case," the statement said.
It is noteworthy that Hayot Shamsutdinov, the press secretary of the General Prosecutor's Office, stated that no injuries other than strangulation marks were found on the body during the examination.
