151 people injured in Istanbul earthquake after jumping from heights — No Uzbeks among them

10244A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Istanbul, Turkey, prompting widespread panic among residents. According to the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul, 151 people were hospitalized after jumping from heights out of fear during the tremor.
The earthquake was felt across all districts of Istanbul as well as neighboring provinces, including Izmir. In response, many residents evacuated buildings and gathered in open areas. Local authorities have confirmed that there were no fatalities and no significant structural damage. Only one person was injured while trying to exit a building.
Following the initial quake, several aftershocks were recorded, the strongest reaching a magnitude of 5.3. Authorities have urged residents to stay away from damaged buildings and to remain alert for further seismic activity.
An abandoned building collapsed in Istanbul’s Fatih district, but no injuries were reported.
The Consulate General of Uzbekistan stated that it is in close contact with local emergency services and continues to monitor the situation.
“So far, there have been no reports of any injuries among citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” the consulate said, adding that updates will be provided if new information emerges.
It is worth noting that the Consulate General had previously issued safety warnings to all Uzbek citizens residing in Turkey.
