On May 28, the newly appointed Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Jordan, Nodirjon Turgunov, presented copies of his credentials to Majid al-Qatarna, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation with Compatriots Abroad. The news was reported by the Dunyo news agency.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to intensify Uzbek-Jordanian relations, as well as cooperation within international organizations such as the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The strong historical and cultural ties between the two friendly nations were highlighted.
“The prospects for expanding political dialogue were discussed, including through the organization of mutual visits at various levels and joint events, in particular, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and meetings of the intergovernmental commission,” the report stated.
Both parties expressed mutual interest in strengthening trade and economic cooperation. Discussions included fostering ties between business communities and launching joint investment projects. Specific proposals were reviewed to actively promote economic diplomacy. Special attention was also given to expanding cultural and humanitarian exchanges and increasing tourism flows. The importance of organizing Culture Days in the capitals of both countries was emphasized as a valuable means of enhancing people-to-people diplomacy.
For reference, diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Jordan were established on February 15, 1993. In March 2024, Nodirjon Turgunov visited Riyadh as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. He was also accredited as the Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in November 2024.
It is also worth noting that in April, Turgunov presented copies of his credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, marking his appointment as Uzbekistan’s first Ambassador to that country.
