Feruza Eshmatova re-elected as Ombudsman

At a plenary session held on February 24, deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis re-elected Feruza Eshmatova as the Authorized Person for Human Rights (Ombudsman), the lower house of parliament reported.

Feruza Eshmatova, born in 1979, is a lawyer by profession. She was first elected to this position in January 2021. Prior to that, she served as Chair of the Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality.

For reference, the Ombudsman may not be elected for more than two consecutive five-year terms. The candidate is nominated by the President and must now be approved by the Senate.

Earlier, by decision of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Otabek Rahmonov Turdimuhammadovich was appointed as Adviser to the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan on Compliance and Internal Anti-Corruption Control.
