Since late December 2025, protests have been taking place in Iran’s capital, Tehran, following a sharp depreciation of the national currency, the Iranian rial. As unrest has intensified, the press secretary of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Akhror Burkhanov, stated that the ministry is closely monitoring the situation and that no Uzbek nationals are among those killed during the protests.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Iran, no citizens of Uzbekistan have so far been reported among those injured during the demonstrations.

“In this regard, we urge citizens of Uzbekistan currently in Iran to refrain from participating in rallies and protests, avoid crowded places, and strictly observe personal safety measures,” the ministry’s press service said.

It was also noted that Uzbek nationals may contact the country’s embassy in Tehran if necessary via the following phone numbers: +98 212 229 9780 and +98 212 283 2025.

Mass protests across Iran have been ongoing since December 28 last year. Initially sparked by the deteriorating economic situation and the sharp fall in the national currency, the demonstrations have since taken on a political dimension.

Amid the unrest, the United States has urged its citizens to leave Iran immediately. American nationals in the country are expected to face further internet disruptions. According to a notice published on January 13 on the website of the US Virtual Embassy in Tehran, citizens are advised to consider alternative means of communication in advance.

Americans have also been advised to consider leaving Iran by land via Armenia or Turkey.

It is worth noting that earlier, Reuters reported that since the start of the protests in Iran, nearly 2,000 people, including security personnel, have been killed.
