Uzbekistan has introduced a special scholarship program for female students from low-income families, according to the presidential decree issued on May 8.
Starting June 1, 2025, female students from families classified under the "red" category—those facing financial hardship—will receive a scholarship equivalent to twice the base stipend (1,035,760 UZS) if they maintain excellent academic performance.
Beginning September 1, 2025, 15% of extended-day school program slots will be reserved for children from low-income families, and these students will be exempt from parental fees.
Additionally, from January 1, 2026, the Uzbek Federation of Trade Unions will cover all costs for academically high-achieving children from low-income families to attend recreational camps and wellness programs.
The National Agency for Social Protection will oversee the registry of low-income families and coordinate the provision of social services and financial assistance through the Unified National Social Protection system.
Previously, officials announced that starting May 15, Uzbekistan would categorize families into "red," "yellow," and "green" groups based on their economic vulnerability, ensuring targeted social support.
