Currently, there are 55,000 unemployed individuals and 44,000 low-income families in Namangan region. The government has set a goal to guide these families toward professional skills, help them find employment, and create sources of income at home. This was announced on July 7 during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's review of a report on the progress of reforms in the Namangan region, regional development, and the implementation of socio-economic projects.
According to the report, a presidential resolution issued on December 2, 2024, outlined comprehensive measures to promote the socio-economic development of Namangan and improve the local investment and business climate. As a result, significant milestones have already been achieved. This year alone, the region plans to attract \$4.2 billion in investment, export \$1 billion worth of goods, create 323,000 new jobs, and lift 55,000 families out of poverty.
Small business and entrepreneurship play a leading role in this strategy, as 82 percent of the working-age population in Namangan earns a living in this sector.
Since the beginning of the year, nearly \$1.6 billion in investments have been made in the region. However, a large share of these investments has gone to the city of Namangan and central districts. President Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to boost investment in remote districts such as Mingbulak, Naryn, Uychi, and Chartak. He also called for diversifying export products and enhancing the potential of underdeveloped areas.
Namangan’s agricultural sector is also showing strong results. In Yangikurgan district, income per hectare exceeds \$20,000.
To better utilize the region’s potential, administrative and economic reforms are being implemented on the President’s initiative. A new “Reforms Headquarters” made up of specialists, prominent entrepreneurs, and foreign experts has been established in Namangan. As a result of their joint efforts, an additional \$1 billion worth of projects has been developed.
At the meeting, officials presented these new opportunities. It was reported that the new projects would create 12,000 jobs, generate an additional 200 billion soums in budget revenue, and add \$160 million in exports.
“For example, in Naryn district, intensive fish farming is being developed at the household level, while Mingbulak is focusing on duck farming. These initiatives will ensure an abundance of food and create numerous jobs. The President emphasized the importance of expanding such initiatives to other regions,” the report stated.
The task has now been clearly set: to guide 55,000 unemployed individuals and 44,000 poor families in Namangan toward professional skills, job opportunities, and home-based income sources. The President also issued instructions to strengthen the social environment and turn neighborhoods into crime-free zones.
