Sara Nazarbayeva, the wife of Kazakhstan’s first president Nursultan Nazarbayev, was discharged in January from the National Hospital of the Medical Center of the Presidential Affairs Administration in Almaty, widely known as “Sovminka,” Informburo reported.
According to Aidos Ukibay, press secretary of the first president, Sara Nazarbayeva was admitted to the Sovminka hospital in April 2025. At the time, unofficial sources and media circulated various reports about her health and whereabouts. The clinic’s press service declined to disclose details about her diagnosis or medical condition.
“The patient underwent treatment at the hospital and was discharged for outpatient care in January. All other information regarding her health status, diagnosis, treatment methods, and results is considered medical confidentiality under Article 273 of the Code on Public Health and will not be disclosed,” the hospital said in a statement.
The 84-year-old wife of the former head of state spent a total of 10 months receiving treatment at the hospital.
Sara Nazarbayeva was born on February 12, 1941. She served as Kazakhstan’s first lady from 1991 to 2019 and is known for her social work as the founder of the Bobek Foundation, focusing on children’s rights, orphans, and self-development programs.
In May 2025, reports circulated claiming that the 85-year-old had died. On the same day, Aidos Ukibay denied the information, saying she was undergoing treatment. Similar rumors about her death had also spread at the end of 2024 and were officially denied at the time.
