8633Recently, social media has been abuzz with claims that "electricity is being shut off in Uzbekistan for non-payment of waste fees." In response, JSC "Regional Electric Networks" has clarified the situation.
According to the Presidential decree titled "On Measures to Improve the Waste Management System and Reduce Their Negative Impact on the Environment," it has been mandated that subscribers who owe payments for waste services will be notified via SMS.
Additionally, the decree introduces a new measure that restricts consumers' ability to pay for electricity if they have outstanding waste service debts, following prior warning notifications.
To implement this decision, starting from October 2024, warning messages will be sent through the short number 2100 by "Territorial Electric Networks" JSC.
"We are currently conducting technical work to restrict electricity payments for consumers who fail to settle their waste debts after receiving a warning," the company has clarified.
Consumers are advised to contact the waste collection and transportation services for complaints regarding waste debt notices.
JSC "Regional Electric Networks" stated that they are only responsible for sending the messages based on data provided by the Ministry of Ecology of Uzbekistan.
As a reminder, since June 1, 2024, consumers in Uzbekistan with unpaid waste service debts are no longer able to make electricity payments. Beginning November 1, 2024, restrictions will be applied for three-month waste service debts across all regions. By January 1, 2025, further restrictions will apply for one-month arrears in waste payments, preventing consumers from paying for electricity until their waste service debts are cleared.
