Reports circulated on social media yesterday, September 28, that colored wastewater was being discharged into the Bozsuv canal near the section passing by the Urikzor market in the Tashkent region. In response to the situation, ’’Tashkent city water supply’’ JSC issued a statement.

According to the company, this issue is not new. There are three treatment facilities in Tashkent designed to process sewage, that is, wastewater from households such as kitchens, bathrooms, and toilets. These facilities are equipped with biological purification technology. However, industrial enterprises are responsible for carrying out the primary treatment of their own chemical waste before it reaches these facilities.

However, the growth of entrepreneurship and manufacturing processes, along with the discharge of various chemical wastes into the sewage system and the release of dye residues from textile factories, has negatively affected the operation of these treatment facilities. In fact, according to established regulations, every manufacturing enterprise is required to have local treatment facilities. These primary installations are intended to clean chemical waste before it leaves the enterprise.

Yet, due to the high cost of operating such facilities, some manufacturers prefer to discharge their wastewater directly into the sewage system.

’’The colored wastewater seen in the footage is coming from textile enterprises. The treatment facilities are unable to filter out dyes and chemical residues. We remind all manufacturing companies in our country that such wastewater must not be discharged into sewage systems or the environment. Such actions contradict not only industrial, social, and environmental standards, but also the very principles of humanity,’’ the statement read.

It is worth noting that earlier, a criminal case was opened after numerous violations were identified along the section of the Bozsuv canal running through the Zangiota district of the Tashkent region. These violations included the dumping of industrial and household waste, as well as the unauthorized construction of facilities within sanitary protection zones.
