Woman fatally struck by excavator near Bukhara central market (video)

On May 15, a woman was fatally struck by an excavator near the central market of Bukhara. Reports of the incident circulated on social media on May 16, prompting a response from the regional Department of Internal Affairs.

According to the department, the 102 emergency hotline received a call from an ambulance doctor reporting a fatal road accident in the area. Preliminary investigations revealed that a man identified as H.I. was operating a KSMG XE60V excavator along Ibn Sino Street when he failed to notice a pedestrian crossing the road. The victim, a woman born in 1961, was reportedly leaving the central market when the incident occurred.

The woman died at the scene. A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 266 of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code, which concerns violations of traffic or vehicle operation safety rules resulting in death. A preliminary investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken based on its findings.

This tragic incident follows a recent accident in Navoi, where an 11th-grade student fell into a coma after being hit by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene but was later apprehended by authorities.
