A chief accountant and his deputy have been arrested in Bukhara region for attempting to embezzle budget funds through a kickback scheme. The State Security Service (SSS) reported the incident.

According to the report, the chief accountant of the Olot District Medical Association signed a contract with a private company—an LLC specializing in the production of non-woven products in the Romitan district—for the purchase of 400 bed sheets for the association’s needs.

In collusion with his deputy, the accountant allegedly inflated the price of each sheet from the actual market price of 90,000 soums to 190,000 soums, bringing the total contract value to 76 million soums.

The two officials then demanded a 40 million soum “kickback” from the LLC’s manager. During an urgent operation conducted by the Bukhara Regional Department of the State Security Service in cooperation with the Department of Criminal Procedure, the suspects were caught red-handed while receiving 32 million soums in advance. Material evidence was secured at the scene.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 25.167, Part 2, Clauses "c" and "d" of the Criminal Code (Attempted embezzlement or misappropriation with aggravating circumstances), and an investigation is currently underway.

It should be noted that a similar incident occurred earlier in Tashkent, where an individual was detained for impersonating a State Security Service officer and offering illicit assistance with customs clearance.
