Seventeen-year-old boy drowns in canal in Bukhara

A 17-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the Shohrud canal in Kogon district of Bukhara region. The regional Emergency Situations Department reported this.

It was noted that on June 27 this year, at around 14:50, the Emergency Situations Department received a report that a citizen born in 2009 had drowned in the Shohrud canal, which flows through the Sorg‘un mahalla of Kogon district.

According to reports, the canal where the incident occurred is 18-20 meters wide and 7-8 meters deep.

After that, search and rescue operations were carried out with the participation of rescuers from the Bukhara Regional Emergency Situations Department and local residents. As a result, the citizen’s body was found and recovered from the water at 16:40 on June 28.

A pre-investigation check into the incident is currently being conducted by the relevant authorities.

Earlier, it was reported that three of six young men who had gone swimming in the Surkhan River, which flows through the Namuna mahalla of Jarkurgan district in Surkhandarya region, drowned and died.
