On March 27, around 9:00 PM, a controlled release of hydrogen sulfide occurred at well No. 202 in the M-25 gas field. To prevent environmental harm and air pollution, the well was ignited. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. A brigade from the Emergency Situations Ministry arrived promptly at the scene. Additionally, representatives of a special task force formed by the Ministry of Energy and other relevant organizations also reached the site to organize the efforts.

It was noted that all necessary measures are being carried out effectively, utilizing required equipment and techniques. Enhanced safety measures have also been implemented.

“It is important to highlight that this incident poses no threat to the population or surrounding areas. The process is being fully monitored by specialists from the Emergency Situations Ministry, the State Inspectorate for Industrial Safety, and Uzbekistan’s Militarized Unit for the Prevention and Elimination of Open Oil and Gas Blowouts,” the statement said.

The cause of the incident and the fire is currently under investigation. Detailed information will be provided after the conclusion of the investigation.

"The development of the M-25 gas field involves unique complexities, and enhanced monitoring measures are being applied, drawing on international expertise," the report added.

On September 1 of last year, during drilling operations at well No. 604 of the "25 Years of Independence" field, a technological malfunction led to the release of hydrogen sulfide gas. To ensure public safety, residents near the field were evacuated to secure areas. Following the incident, the Deputy Prime Minister and several senior officials arrived on-site.

On September 14, at approximately 1:05 PM, an anti-leak device was installed on the pipe at the tower. Pressurization work was completed by September 15, and a special solution called Barit was applied at 4:50 PM to fully stop gas emissions from the equipment.

During a press conference on September 18, Jusipbek Kazbekov, Deputy Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, stated that there were no longer high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide emissions in the area. He clarified that the issue was a technical malfunction related to production processes.

However, it was later revealed by the Prosecutor General's Office that two individuals had lost their lives due to the incident. Subsequent reports confirmed four fatalities, while 11 individuals sustained injuries and were hospitalized.
