B1 certificate holders to receive 75% of exam score

Applicants holding a B1-level foreign language certificate will receive 75 percent of the maximum score for the foreign language subject when applying to undergraduate programs that include a foreign language exam. This is stated in a joint resolution of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education on amendments and additions to the list of nationally and internationally recognized certificates confirming proficiency in foreign languages and general education subjects.

Under the amendments, the equivalency level of the TOEFL iBT certificate for English will now be determined based on a 1-to-6-point scale.

For admission to undergraduate programs where a foreign language is included in the set of entrance subjects, applicants with a nationally or internationally recognized B1-level certificate will be awarded 75 percent of the maximum score for that subject. Previously, only B2 and higher-level certificates provided 100 percent of the score. Now, B1 certificate holders will also be able to receive 75 percent without taking the exam.

At the same time:

•  The validity period of TKT, TESOL, TEFL and TESL certificates in English will be taken into account when paying bonuses to teaching staff;
•  Teachers of vocational education institutions who teach specialized subjects in a foreign language will receive monthly bonuses equal to 50 percent of their base salary for a nationally or internationally recognized B2 certificate and 100 percent for a C1 certificate;
•  Teachers who score 750 or higher in the mathematics section of the Digital SAT will be eligible for a bonus;
•  Music culture and physical education teachers at general secondary schools will receive bonuses for B+ and higher-level certificates.

Earlier, it was reported that, under a presidential decree, students in Uzbekistan who complete their education in a foreign language will no longer be required to submit a foreign language certificate for the next stage of study.
