5641On March 15th, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation outlining plans for enhancing weightlifting and football facilities in Uzbekistan, according to a report from the President's press office.
The presentation was attended by Minister of Sports Adham Ikromov, First Deputy Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, and First Vice-President of the Football Association of Uzbekistan, Ravshan Ermatov.
The state's objectives include upgrading football facilities at the grassroots level, identifying and nurturing young talent, and establishing robust reserves for national teams.
Starting this year, a school football leader will be chosen from students in grades 8-11, following the example of the English Schools Football Association. Additionally, a "Neighborhood League" for 12-15-year-olds and a three-stage State Security Service Cup for 16-30-year-olds will be initiated.
To expand football infrastructure, existing stadiums and sports fields in neighborhoods will be utilized efficiently. Where lacking, new facilities will be constructed through public-private partnerships. Neighborhood teams will be formed across various age groups and genders, with promising talent directed towards professional football academies.
Moreover, a Weightlifting Sports Club will be established under the Council of the Federation of Trade Unions. Territorial schools will be established in several regions.
A comprehensive three-year program has been devised to promote weightlifting, improve regional athletic conditions, modernize talent scouting, attract foreign expertise, and implement best practices.
To boost weightlifting's popularity, plans include hosting three-stage competitions, Central Asian championships, and the "Uzbekistan Open."
The President endorsed the proposals and instructed them to enhance the sports environment and camaraderie among youth, ensuring high-quality organization of competitions.
