Earlier we reported that the journalist from the BBC, Avaz Tokhirov, was banned when he tried to shoot in the park “New Uzbekistan” and in Independence Square.  He wrote about it on his social network page.

Deputy Head of the presidential administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan Kamil Allamjonov reacted to the case that Avaz Tokhirov was not allowed to photograph at Independence Square and in the park “New Uzbekistan”.

“The problem of “No Photo, No Video” should have already disappeared from the social life of our country, but it frequently reoccurs.

There is no document regulating the ban on photography.  In 2018, the Ministry of Internal Affairs prepared a draft ZWM- “On approval of the regulations on the procedure of photo and video recording in public places, buildings, and structures in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan” and took it under discussion, but it remained unaccepted”, - Allamjonov says.

According to him, some unauthorized prohibitions, contrary to the policy of openness of the country, will inevitably harm society.

“If there is no decision by the Cabinet of Ministers on the prohibition of filming, all employees of the departments should be instructed on how to act in such cases.

All over the world, if there is no ban, then it is considered ‘allowed.’  There is a list of objects that are prohibited to photograph by law.  In all other places it is necessary to provide full freedom to photographers, tourists, and citizens of Uzbekistan’, - Allamjonov says.
