The Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (IERES) at George Washington University has appointed Komil Allamjonov as a special advisor to its Central Asia Program (CAP), the university’s website reported.

“The IERES Central Asia Program (CAP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Komil Allamjonov as a special advisor. Mr. Allamjonov is an Uzbek entrepreneur and media professional with experience in the media, education, and publishing sectors,” the statement said.

CAP Director Sébastien Peyrouse noted that the appointment reflects the program’s commitment to fostering dialogue between scholars and practitioners, as well as providing in-depth analytical insights into ongoing reforms and broader developments in Uzbekistan and across Central Asia.

“This is a crucial time for Central Asia. As a committed advocate for freedom of expression, I am pleased to contribute to a better understanding of the region and to highlight the important role that freedom of expression plays among leaders and academics around the world,” said Allamjonov.

For reference, George Washington University was founded in 1821 and is located in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. It is one of the country’s most prestigious higher education institutions, particularly renowned for its programs in international relations, politics, law, medicine, and business. The main campus is located near the White House and the U.S. Capitol, giving students opportunities to gain experience in international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and various embassies. Currently, approximately 25,000 students are enrolled, the majority of whom are international students. The university is distinguished by its strong faculty, research capacity, and opportunities in the fields of politics and diplomacy.

It is worth noting that Komil Ismoilovich Allamjonov, the former head of the Information Policy Department of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, was previously appointed as an independent public advisor to the Head of the Presidential Administration.
