3847U.S. authorities have charged 33-year-old Uzbek citizen Sanjar Jamilov and 45-year-old Russian citizen Dmitry Shushlebin in connection with a voter fraud scheme involving the submission of falsified voter registration applications, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
The fraudulent applications were filed in Pinellas County, Florida. Shushlebin, a Russian national residing in Miami Beach, and Jamilov, an Uzbek national living in St. Petersburg, are accused of conspiring to submit 132 falsified voter registration applications between February and March 2023.
Investigators say the applications were filed under other people’s names and contained identical errors, including repeated dates of birth, addresses, and consecutive Social Security numbers—clear indicators of fraud.
If convicted, both defendants face a maximum sentence of five years in prison. The investigation is being led by the U.S. Postal Service, the FBI, and Florida law enforcement agencies.
