On July 17, 2023, in Brooklyn, Faridun Mavlonov, a 15-year-old from Samarkand, was returning from school with his friends when he was attacked and killed. A year later, the killer was discovered, as reported by the "New York Post."
Authorities arrested 18-year-old Leopoldo Nesha Montoya at a relative's house in Panama. He was extradited to New York last week to face second-degree murder charges.
"I cannot find answers when I confront my son's killer. If he were free, he might have killed other children. He took my son's life for no reason. It has been incredibly hard for me," said Faridun Mavlonov's father.
Notably, Faridun Mavlonov's funeral was held in Sunset Park, with New York Mayor Eric Adams in attendance.
