2727A man was detained in Syrdarya region for allegedly promising to secure a U.S. visa for $10,000. The Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General's Office reported this development.
According to the report, during an operation conducted by the department's Saykhunabad district unit, the suspect, identified as I.R., gained the trust of citizen Sh.Kh. and promised to help him obtain a U.S. student visa through his network of contacts for $10,000. The individual was detained with material evidence while accepting $5,000 and 26 million sums as part of the agreed payment.
A criminal case has been initiated under Articles 168 (fraud) and 28, 211 (bribe giving) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and investigative actions are currently underway.
It should be noted that similar incidents have occurred recently, with individuals offering to facilitate work opportunities in the United States. Detentions related to such promises have been reported in Turakurgan district of Namangan region and the city of Samarkand.
