Aguero praises Khusanov again

Former Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero has praised the performances of Uzbekistan national team defender Abdukodir Khusanov, saying he could become one of the world’s best defenders if he maintains his current level. The Argentine made the remarks in an interview with City Xtra.

“Khusanov is quick and plays aggressively. I like him. However, time will show how he develops. I always evaluate a player based on how long they can maintain their level. If he sustains this level for three or four years, he can be considered one of the best defenders in the world,” Agüero said.

He added that Khusanov has significant potential and could achieve major success if he continues on this path. At the same time, Agüero noted that there are other defenders who consistently perform at a high level.

Khusanov joined Manchester City from RC Lens in January 2025 for a reported fee of around €40 million. His contract with the club runs until June 30, 2029.

This season, Khusanov has made 33 appearances for Manchester City across all competitions, including 18 in the Premier League, six in the UEFA Champions League, and nine in domestic cup competitions.

Earlier, Agüero had also stated that Manchester City could fully rely on Khusanov in the future.
