14058It is planned to introduce proposals for increasing electricity tariffs for the population and introducing differentiated tariffs in May 2024. This information was reported by the correspondent of QALAMPIR.UZ, who participated in the press conference held with the Minister of Energy, Jorabek Mirzamahmudov.
"Increasing electricity tariffs for the population and proposing differentiated tariffs are scheduled for May 2024. The main condition for this is that the state must be able to provide consumers with electricity. Only then will the project be implemented. The target price is set at 450-500 soums," says Energy Minister Jorabek Mirzamahmudov.
According to the information provided, the current project outlines the establishment of new tariffs solely for legal entities, with no changes to the prices for residents.
"Before establishing differentiated tariffs for the population, our primary concern is to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply. In other words, if the price increases, but power cuts persist, it will understandably lead to objections from the population. Therefore, we are currently expediting efforts to increase electricity generation and modernize networks.
We plan to present a project to the Government for the introduction of differentiated electricity tariffs for the population starting from May 1, 2024, only if we can guarantee uninterrupted electricity supply. However, it's important to note that this does not imply an immediate price increase; at this point, everything remains in the project phase.
Differentiated tariffs mean that prices will increase for households consuming more electricity than the established "social norm," such as those with swimming pools, saunas, and numerous household appliances—essentially, relatively affluent and self-sufficient households. Currently, 85% of the population consumes up to 300 kW hours of electricity per month. However, the remaining 15% of the population consumes more electricity than this 85%," stated the Minister of Energy.
