As of the end of the first quarter of this year, the total assets of Uzbekistan’s 34 commercial banks amounted to 962.8 trillion soums, of which 629 trillion soums were allocated as loans. The Central Bank reported this.
According to the report, as of May 1, 2026, the total assets of the 34 commercial banks operating in Uzbekistan amounted to 962.8 trillion soums. The 12 largest banks by asset size, each with assets exceeding 30 trillion soums, accounted for nearly 80% of the banking system’s assets, or 767.6 trillion soums.
The main share of the loan portfolio was also concentrated in large banks. Of the total 629 trillion soums in loans in the banking system, 521.5 trillion soums, or 83%, belonged to banks with assets exceeding 30 trillion soums — the same 12 banks.
It was noted that long-term loans dominate the structure of lending. Total long-term loans amounted to 552.8 trillion soums, of which 459.6 trillion soums were issued by large banks. The banking system’s capital base also remains strong. Total capital amounted to 144 trillion soums, with 111 trillion soums belonging to banks whose assets exceed 30 trillion soums.
As of May 1 this year, the banking system recorded a net profit of 6.9 trillion soums. The capital adequacy ratio, a key safety indicator, stood at 18.4%.
According to the regulator, the volume of deposits in banks also continues to grow. The total volume of household deposits reached 170.2 trillion soums, while deposits by legal entities amounted to 274.2 trillion soums. Although the bulk of these funds remains concentrated in large banks, the deposit base in the medium and small bank segments is also gradually expanding.
In conclusion, not only during the period up to May 1 this year, but in general, major banks continue to play the leading role in Uzbekistan’s banking system. They provide the economy with the largest volumes of funds and serve as the main lever of the sector. At the same time, the share of smaller banks in capital turnover has also increased relatively.
Earlier, it was reported that the Central Bank had kept the key rate unchanged at 14%.
