President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the performance of banks in mahallas, saying that their work at the local level remains inadequate. He made the remarks during a video conference meeting on July 21 focused on reviewing results achieved in the first half of the year and tasks for the remainder of the year.
During the meeting, Mirziyoyev said he was “completely dissatisfied” with the work of banks in mahallas and, as a result, issued strong criticism of regional Central Bank officials and the heads of state bank branches.
It was noted that this year would serve as a period of testing and practical evaluation for regional and district banks, as well as mahalla associations. Over the next three months, managers who demonstrate results will retain their positions, while those who fail to introduce changes will be removed from office.
The Prosecutor General’s Office and the Accounts Chamber have been tasked with monitoring the situation in each mahalla and assessing what work is being carried out and what changes are being achieved.
The meeting also included a critical review of issues related to cleanliness, living standards, and the management of residential yards in mahallas. The importance of expanding the coverage of private houses through management companies was emphasized.
