65 students become victims of accidents in the initial five months of 2024

2972During the first five months of the year in Uzbekistan, 359 schoolchildren were involved in traffic accidents. Of these, 65 were killed and 294 sustained various injuries. This information was disclosed on June 25 at a meeting of the Defense and Security Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
Reports indicate that to prevent traffic accidents in 2023, construction projects worth 13.5 trillion soums were completed at approximately 8,000 sites across the country. Consequently, traffic accidents decreased by 7.2%, and incidents involving bodily injury dropped by 8.7% in the first five months of this year.
Simultaneously, 57% of traffic accidents were due to poor road infrastructure, while 43% were caused by drivers not following traffic rules. Pedestrians and cyclists were involved in 53.7% of these incidents.
It was noted that 9,548 general secondary schools are situated in high-traffic areas, with most lacking sidewalks and proper traffic lights.
In 2023, over 16 million violations were recorded due to insufficient and ineffective passenger safety control on the roads.
Due to 9,839 accidents, 9,209 citizens were injured, and 2,282 lost their lives.
In 2023, there were 1,794 child-related accidents, resulting in 1,568 injuries and 263 fatalities among children. The regions with the highest number of fatal traffic accidents were Samarkand, Tashkent (80), Fergana (69), Kashkadarya, and Surkhandarya (53).
