Fifteen district governors in Uzbekistan will be dismissed if they fail to deliver tangible results within the next three months. This was announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a videoconference meeting held today, June 16, to assess the effectiveness of ongoing reforms, regional development, and responses to public concerns.
According to the President, the national plan for the first half of the year aimed to create 2.6 million jobs and lift 722,000 people out of poverty. Despite having access to resources and favorable conditions, 15 districts failed to meet their employment targets. These districts are Muborak, Boston, Vobkent, Markhamat, Fergana, Zangiota, Dustlik, Chortok, Karauzak, Uychi, Khanabad, Yangibozor, Parkent, Arnasay, and Uchkoprik.
President Mirziyoyev made it clear that if these governors do not meet their respective targets within three months, they will be dismissed from their posts.
Additionally, the President pointed to sluggish efforts in poverty alleviation in the districts of Uchkuduk, Angren, and Karmana.
This announcement follows a broader set of reforms aimed at holding local officials accountable. Earlier, it was decided that regional and district governors would personally head the People's Reception Centers to directly address citizens' concerns. To support this initiative, their powers are being expanded, and additional resources are being allocated.
However, the President reiterated that if these expanded responsibilities and funding do not lead to measurable outcomes, the allocated funds will be withdrawn and officials will be replaced.
