Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in Samarkand today, April 3, to participate in the first "Central Asia - European Union" summit, which will be chaired by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The Akorda press service reported the arrival.

Upon arrival at Samarkand International Airport, Tokayev was welcomed by Uzbekistan's Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and other officials.

Following the welcoming ceremony, the Kazakh leader proceeded to his next scheduled engagement in accordance with his visit program.

For reference, the first summit between the European Union and Central Asia will take place in Samarkand on April 3-4. Chaired by President Mirziyoyev, the meeting will be attended by the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

On April 4-5, the first Samarkand Climate Forum will be held at the "Silk Road Samarkand" Congress Center. The forum is expected to bring together leaders from Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, as well as representatives from the European Union, the United Nations, international financial institutions, and leading environmental organizations.

It is worth noting that on April 2, European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Samarkand for the summit. That evening, Mirziyoyev met with António Costa, followed by discussions with Ursula von der Leyen on April 3.

Additionally, earlier today, April 3, the Presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan—Sadyr Japarov, Emomali Rahmon, and Serdar Berdimuhamedov—also arrived in Samarkand for the summit.
