The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan has sent an official note to the Russian Federation expressing serious concern over reports of abuse and human rights violations committed by Russian law enforcement agencies against Uzbek labor migrants. The ministry has requested a legal assessment of the actions of those responsible, according to a statement from the ministry’s press service on June 10.

The statement followed a routine monthly meeting between the Uzbek Foreign Ministry and Russian officials on migration-related issues. During the meeting, the Uzbek side raised concerns over unauthorized searches and incidents involving disrespectful and abusive treatment of Uzbek citizens on Russian territory.

“These incidents are entirely inconsistent with the spirit of friendly relations between our two nations. We emphasized the need for specific preventive measures,” the ministry noted.

The ministry underscored that the protection of the rights and interests of Uzbek citizens living or temporarily residing abroad remains a top priority for the Uzbek government.

In response to the growing concerns, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow has also addressed the issue through diplomatic channels, sending a note to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The embassy has requested a formal explanation and a legal evaluation of the actions of the law enforcement personnel involved.

The Foreign Ministry called on Russian authorities to treat Uzbek citizens with respect and to refrain from actions that undermine their honor and dignity.

“We urge compliance with international norms and the principles of human rights,” the ministry stated.

The incident prompting the note took place on June 8 at a facility under Russia’s Ministry of Defense in Moscow. A video that surfaced on social media shows security personnel physically assaulting, insulting, and forcefully removing migrants from the premises. The footage has drawn widespread criticism.

The Representative Office of the Migration Agency of Uzbekistan in Russia has also commented on the incident, confirming that they are awaiting official information from Russian authorities. The Consulate General in Moscow and the Migration Agency’s representative office are actively monitoring the situation.

The Foreign Ministry assured that it is closely following developments and stands ready to take additional measures as necessary.
