From August 6 to 10, 2025, the World Youth Rowing Championship took place in Trakai, Lithuania. For the first time in history, Uzbekistan’s national rowing team secured a place among the medalists at the event, the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan reported.
In intense competition, Uzbek athletes won silver medals in two events:
- JW2- (women’s pair, two sculls): Rayhon Sattorova / Aydana Smetullayeva
- JM1x (men’s single sculls): Jamol Turgunov
This achievement marks a new milestone for Uzbek rowing and serves as a significant morale boost ahead of future major competitions.
The country’s previous best result came at the 2021 World Rowing Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, in the under-23 category. At that time, Yevgeniy Agafonov and Shahzod Nurmatov placed third in the men’s double sculls final after winning their qualifying heat, earning Uzbekistan a bronze medal.
