School director who forced teachers into renovation work fined 41.2 million soums (video)

Earlier, it was reported that teachers at School No. 42 in the Marhamat district of the Andijan region were forcibly involved in renovation work, after which the school principal was dismissed. The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Employment also responded to the situation.

According to the latest update, on August 4, the State Labor Inspectorate of the Ministry conducted an investigation into the incident. The investigation revealed that on August 2, the school principal abused his authority by coercing teachers into participating in school renovation activities. Teachers were reportedly told that they would be assigned fewer teaching hours if they did not comply.

As a result, the school director, Z.M., was fined in accordance with Part 2 of Article 51 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility (Administrative Coercion to Labor). A fine of 100 times the basic calculation amount—41 million 200 thousand soums—was imposed.

For context, Secondary School No. 42, located in the “Yangi Hayot” mahalla of Marhamat district, was originally built in 1982 and underwent major renovations in 2005. Under the “Initiative Budget” project, the school received 1.2 billion soums in 2023 for new doors and frames. In 2024, an additional 1.3 billion soums was allocated to construct a sports field and modernize the school’s exterior. Currently, 74 teachers serve a total of 1,236 students at the school.

A video from the scene shows that all the teachers working on the renovations are women, including English, Russian, and mathematics teachers. Some are seen plastering walls and ceilings, while others are moving desks and chairs. Remarkably, several teachers are involved in the renovation work during their vacation period. According to the video, teachers who participated in the renovation were promised additional teaching hours.
