The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul has issued a warning to Uzbeks living in Turkey about the circulation of counterfeit $50 and $100 bills. The message advises citizens to exercise caution in their currency transactions.
Key recommendations include:
- Only accepting dollars at official banks or licensed currency exchange points.
- Using inspection equipment, especially when handling large amounts of dollars.
- Avoiding hand-to-hand currency exchange.
"Knowingly accepting or distributing counterfeit money carries severe penalties under Turkish law. In case of encountering suspicious banknotes, individuals are urged to contact local police or the consulate immediately," the Consulate emphasized.
Additionally, it has been reported that there is a rising number of cases involving "smuggling" charges against individuals attempting to import tobacco products into Turkey beyond the allowed quantities, leading to serious legal consequences.
