A 29-year-old Uzbek woman has died in Turkey, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul reported.

According to the consulate, it received information that the woman died on May 29. The consulate is working with the relevant Turkish authorities and is providing assistance to the woman’s relatives in repatriating the body and resolving other consular and legal matters.

Earlier in May, a 54-year-old Uzbek citizen died in an accident at an aluminum plant in Turkey’s Sakarya province. In that case, the Consulate General worked with local law enforcement agencies and medical institutions to resolve procedural and consular matters, and the deceased’s body was sent to Uzbekistan. Investigations into both cases are currently ongoing.

Earlier, it was reported that the case of Uzbek citizen Nodira Qodirova, who died under unclear circumstances in Turkey, would be reinvestigated. Qodirova was found dead on September 23, 2019, at the Ankara home of Şirin Ünal, a lawmaker from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Justice and Development Party. The case was initially classified as suicide involving a firearm. However, it is set to be reviewed following claims by her relatives about alleged pressure and threats.
