President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the newly constructed underground roadway on New Uzbekistan street in Tashkent today, August 29, the Presidential press service reported.
It was stated that developing road infrastructure and facilitating smooth traffic flow an ongoing process, particularly crucial for Tashkent, where the population is growing and the city is expanding.

In recent years, New Uzbekistan Street has seen the construction of a recreational park, residential buildings, a university, and the Olympic village. This street is set to become one of the main routes leading to the future New Tashkent city.
Accordingly, an underground roadway measuring 468 meters in length and 25 meters in width has been built along the New Uzbekistan street. The tunnel can accommodate over 10,000 vehicles per hour.
The area above the tunnel has been converted into a green zone, ensuring safe pedestrian movement between the "New Uzbekistan" park and the Olympic village.

Additionally, a tunnel and station have been constructed along this route for the planned metro line.
According to the reports, the underground roadway on New Uzbekistan Street will reduce travel time for vehicles by half, save up to one ton of fuel daily, and decrease harmful emissions released into the atmosphere by two tons.
The President emphasized that the underground roadway has been built according to modern standards. Such smooth and efficient roads not only provide convenience for residents but also contribute to the development of tourism.

It is worth noting that today, August 29, the representatives of state and public organizations, elders, and intellectuals gathered at the Alley of Martyrs in observance of the Day of Remembrance for the victims of repression on August 31. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the ceremony. The Quran was recited in honor of the country’s patriots, and meals were distributed to the public. Quran recitations were also held near the symbolic grave in the alley. Scholars and intellectuals discussed the study of history, educating the youth, and fostering respect for independence and peace. Following this, the President visited the “New Uzbekistan” park and laid a wreath at the base of the Independence monument. The representatives of the Legislative chamber and Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the Presidential administration, the Cabinet of Ministers, and the Tashkent city community also attended the ceremony of laying flowers at the monument.
