To reduce traffic congestion, the checkpoints located at the entry and exit points of Tashkent will be relocated. This was announced by Bakhtiyor Haydarov, First Deputy Mayor of Tashkent, in an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.

According to him, on October 16, during a meeting chaired by the President dedicated to the development of the capital’s industrial and transport infrastructure, the issue of reducing traffic congestion was discussed. As part of this direction, information was presented about the construction of dedicated bus lanes with a total length of 57 kilometers between 2025 and 2030, and the proposals were approved. Additionally, the relocation of Tashkent’s entry and exit checkpoints was also discussed.

“The proposals to relocate the entry and exit checkpoints of Tashkent have been approved,” said Bakhtiyor Haydarov.

However, he did not specify which checkpoints would be moved or when the relocation would take place.

Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzoqov also noted that over 400,000 cars enter the capital daily, and more than one million people travel in and out of the city each day.

“The main reason so many residents use private cars is that we have not yet properly organized the public transportation system. There are no bus routes connecting Tashkent city with the regional centers of Tashkent Region, and no proper facilities, such as bus terminals, at the city’s entry points,” said Umurzoqov.

He added that new bus terminals, rest areas, and parking facilities for both freight and passenger vehicles will be built outside but near the city. Design work will begin this year, and construction is expected to start early next year.

“If we open dedicated routes for public transport similar to the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system and establish new routes, people coming to Tashkent will prefer public transport. This will significantly reduce the number of cars entering the city—currently around 400,000 daily—and help ease traffic congestion,” said Shavkat Umurzoqov.

It is worth noting that earlier it was reported that in 2026, one trillion soums from the local budget will be allocated to improve Tashkent’s neighborhoods, develop gastronomic streets, and modernize irrigation systems.
