A high-ranking prosecutor in the Surkhandarya region was arrested for demanding $28,000 from a businessman, according to the State Security Service.

The senior prosecutor responsible for overseeing legislation related to agrarian and food sectors in the Surkhandarya regional prosecutor's office reportedly asked the head of a local LLC to find customer farms and sign contracts for installing drip irrigation technology on 280 hectares of farmland in the region. Claiming he assisted in securing bank funds, he demanded $28,000 for his services.

In a swift operation by the State Security Service, the senior prosecutor was apprehended with physical evidence while accepting an advance payment of $10,000.

The regional prosecutor's office has initiated a criminal case against him under Article 168 (fraud) of the Criminal Code, and he has been placed in preventive detention.

It is worth noting that a criminal case was previously initiated in the Urganch district of the Khorezm region against former officials of the Land Allocation Commission, the former head of the district construction department, and several others.
