Reports previously emerged that the Tax Committee had withdrawn large sums from entrepreneurs without justification — in one case, as much as 200 million soums from a single business owner.

According to the committee’s press service, a technical malfunction in its database led to a total of 399.3 billion soums being wrongfully debited from the accounts of 30.1 thousand taxpayers.

The breakdown is as follows:

• 7,203 taxpayers — up to 100 thousand soums each
• 10,165 taxpayers — from 100 thousand to 1 million soums
• 8,270 taxpayers — from 1 million to 10 million soums
• 3,780 taxpayers — from 10 million to 100 million soums
• 672 taxpayers — from 100 million to 1 billion soums
• 10 taxpayers — more than 1 billion soums each

The tax authorities stated that they are taking all necessary measures to return the funds to taxpayers’ accounts by the end of August 13. The relevant orders for the return of funds have been fully sent to the treasury.

“The return of funds will be carried out automatically. No written application from taxpayers is required,” the statement said.

The committee also confirmed that collection orders not yet executed in commercial banks have been canceled. As of 6:00 p.m. today, 274.7 billion soums had already been returned to 20,608 entities.
